TAU leads in European young researcher grants

New data from the European Research Council reveals that young Israeli researchers recieved more per-capita grants from the ERC in 2015 than researchers from 23 European countries. Researchers from Tel Aviv University received the most grants of all Israeli institutions, with eight winners, followed by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem with five, the Weizmann Institute and Technion with four each and the University of Haifa, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Bar-Ilan University with one each.

The TAU recipients of the ERC grants are: Dr. Roy Weinstain (Life Sciences); Dr. Yossi Yovel (Life Sciences); Dr. Moshe Parnas (Medicine); Prof. Ron Peled (Exact Sciences); Dr. Natan Shaked (Engineering); Dr. Eran Stark (Medicine); Dr. Shira Dvir Girsman (Social Sciences); and Prof. Asaf Nachmias (Exact Sciences).

Of the 2,920 requests for grants throughout Europe, only 291 were chosen. A total of 24 research grants were awarded to Israel out of 291 overall, placing it fifth in absolute figures. The UK placed first, with 48 grants and Germany second with 47.
