Infineon Technologies continues to strengthen its position as the global leader in the microcontroller (MCU) market. According to new research by Omdia, the company increased its global MCU market share to 23.2% in 2025, compared with 21.4% in 2024 – a gain of 1.8 percentage points and the largest increase among its competitors. The growth was achieved despite a slight contraction in the overall microcontroller market during the same period.
According to Andreas Urschitz, Chief Marketing Officer and Member of the Management Board at Infineon, the results reflect the company’s continued investment in innovation, system-level solutions and strong collaboration with customers worldwide. He noted that Infineon’s portfolio of microcontrollers, software platforms and development tools enables customers to address global challenges such as digitalization and decarbonization.
One of the key drivers behind Infineon’s expanding market position is the 2025 acquisition of Marvell’s Automotive Ethernet business, which significantly strengthens the company’s connectivity capabilities for next-generation automotive architectures. By integrating the BRIGHTLANE Automotive Ethernet portfolio with Infineon’s AURIX, TRAVEO and PSOC microcontroller families, the company enables advanced system architectures for software-defined vehicles (SDV) – supporting applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), autonomous driving features and secure over-the-air software updates.
Beyond the automotive sector, Infineon sees strong growth potential in emerging areas such as IoT and Physical AI, including humanoid robotics. Microcontrollers from the AURIX, PSOC and MOTIX families enable robots to safely perceive their environment, process information in real time and control actuators and motors while maintaining efficient connectivity and intelligent edge processing.
Cybersecurity also plays a central role in Infineon’s microcontroller strategy. The latest MCU generations are designed to comply with international security standards such as ISO/SAE 21434 for automotive cybersecurity and to meet upcoming regulatory requirements including the EU Cyber Resilience Act. The architectures are also being prepared for future security needs such as post-quantum cryptography.
Infineon showcased its latest industrial, consumer and automotive microcontroller technologies during embedded world 2026, held in Nuremberg, Germany.
