Infineon Technologies has introduced the EZ-PD™ PMG1-B2, described as the industry’s first single-port USB Type-C Power Delivery microcontroller with an integrated 55 V buck-boost controller designed for charging lithium-ion battery packs from 2 to 12 cells.
The device supports input voltages from 4.5 V to 55 V and programmable switching frequencies between 200 and 700 kHz, enabling compact USB-C charging solutions for battery-powered systems. Target applications include cordless power tools, e-bikes and e-scooters, drones, robotics, cordless appliances and industrial equipment.
At its core is a 32-bit Arm Cortex-M0 MCU with 128 KB flash and 8 KB SRAM, combined with integrated analog and digital peripherals such as ADCs, PWMs and serial interfaces. By integrating the MCU, USB-PD controller, battery charger and protection functions in a single device, the solution helps reduce PCB space and bill-of-materials cost.
Infineon and Arrow Electronics are also preparing a 240 W USB-C PD reference design based on the controller, combining it with Infineon’s PSOC™ C3 and CoolGaN™ power transistors.
Production is expected to begin in Q2 2026.
