Menlo Microsystems and Rosenberger have announced a strategic partnership to develop a multichannel ultra-low power switching module designed for next-generation quantum computing systems.
The planned module aims to address a critical challenge in scaling quantum computers – managing RF signal routing at cryogenic temperatures while minimizing thermal disturbance to delicate qubit environments.
The collaboration combines Menlo Micro’s Ideal Switch® MEMS technology with Rosenberger’s high-density WSMP multichannel RF connectors, enabling precise, low-loss RF connectivity in cryogenic environments.
As quantum computing systems grow in complexity, routing RF signals at extremely low temperatures becomes increasingly demanding. Conventional electronic switches often generate thermal loads that can disrupt qubit coherence and compromise system stability.
The new switching module is designed to operate at temperatures as low as 10 millikelvin (mK) while maintaining ultra-low power consumption. The solution is expected to integrate 16- and 32-channel RF connector configurations along with built-in Open-Short-Load (OSL) RF calibration standards, allowing rapid system validation and repeatable measurements.
By minimizing Joule heating and maintaining near-zero thermal disturbance during switching, the module aims to improve thermal efficiency, simplify system architecture and support compact integration with dilution refrigerator environments commonly used in quantum systems.
The companies believe the collaboration will help reduce system complexity, accelerate development cycles and support the transition of quantum computing from research environments toward scalable commercial infrastructure.
