VTT’s cyber security team is the best at identifying the attack vectors with the highest vulnerabilities

VTT’s cyber security team was clearly the best at identifying the key vulnerability at the Nokia HackAthon 2018, and won the category in the competition. Almost 100 top cyber-security experts participated in the third Nokia HackAthon, which was held on 26 January. They represented the core of the sector: Nixu, Deloitte and Palo Alto Networks, specialists from Nokia, students in the field, and VTT’s team of 5G experts.

This year, VTT’s cyber security team – Jukka Julku, Jarkko Kuusijärvi, Juha Pärssinen and Teemu Väisänen – demonstrated their world-class expertise by using focused teamwork and detection skills to spot the most serious vulnerability in the 5G system built for the competition. The team won the ‘attack vector with the highest vulnerability’ category and came second in the overall competition, which was won by VTT’s cybersecurity team last year. Deloitte had the highest points overall and Tony Owens had the highest individual score.

VTT’s Cyber War Room laboratory provides the opportunity to test devices and systems in a closed environment, and find various vulnerabilities in them. VTT’s Cyber Security Research Team, the largest independent Finnish research team in the field, is continuously developing its attack vector and defence expertise. An ethically controlled cyber-attack capability is an important area of expertise in the battle against crime.
