ON Semiconductor Receives Lifestyle Category Award in Super Manufacturing Parts Grand Prize 2017

Li-ion Battery Fuel Gauge LC709203 Developed by Japanese-Based Design Team are Recognized as Parts that Contribute to the Improvement of the Level of People’s Lifestyle

ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficient innovations, announced today that the company’s li-ion battery fuel gauge, LC709203, received a lifestyle category award in the super manufacturing parts grand prize 2017. The awards were presented today by sponsors MONODZUKURI Nippon Conference and The Daily Industrial News (The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun). The sponsors have presented these designations for the past 14 years and are aimed at parts and materials developed by Japanese organizations that contribute to the development of industry and society in order to support the improvement of the competitiveness of manufacturing in Japan.

The LC709203 integrated circuit provides accurate measurements of the remaining power level of one-cell lithium-ion (Li+) batteries commonly used in a wide range of portable electronics such as smartphones, tablets and wearable devices. The product combines high levels of accuracy with lower power consumption compared to competitive devices in the industry, while also reducing component count, system footprint and system cost. The LC709203 was developed and productized by the company’s Japanese-based business unit with their unique technology, architecture and algorithm. The product was originally launched in 2014 and then made improvements of its algorithm for the fuel gauge function.

“We are very proud to be recognized as one of the lifestyle category award recipients for our environmentally-friendly product,” said Satoshi Terada, deputy general manager, digital solution business unit. “In response to the recent rise in the safety of lithium ion rechargeable batteries, we have developed proprietary technologies to improve residual quantity precision and ease of design, and trade-offs between high efficiency and occupied area reduction. This solution has been provided to many customers. . We will continue to innovate and improve our technologies, products and services that support safety, reliability and convenience of rechargeable battery based end-products.”
