Cypress’s New Family of Programmable Oscillators Deliver Industry-Leading Performance for Next-Generation Networking Systems

Programmable Oscillators with Industry-Leading RMS Jitter Performance Exceed Requirements for Demanding, High-Speed Networking Interface Standards

SAN JOSE, Calif., May 10, 2016 – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) today introduced a high-performance programmable oscillator family that delivers best-in-class jitter performance and a broad range of output frequencies for embedded systems. The CY294X programmable oscillators offer performance that exceeds the reference clock requirements of demanding high-speed interface standards including 40/100GbE, SyncE and IEEE 1588, making them ideal for networking applications such as switches and routers, wireless base stations, Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) hubs and any systems requiring high-performance clocks.

The CY294X family delivers RMS jitter performance of 110 fs (12 kHz – 20 MHz offset). The devices comes in industry-standard packages, providing drop-in replacements for expensive and inflexible SAW/Inverted Mesa oscillators, while offering better jitter performance. CY294X leverages Cypress’s patented programmable clock technology to instantly generate any frequency from 15 MHz to 2.1 GHz, including non-standard frequencies. The part is on-board programmable using an industry-standard I2C interface, which gives end customers the flexibility to use a single device across a family of hardware platforms. More information on the CY294X family is available at www.cypress.com/products/high-performance-programmable-oscillator.

“The launch of the CY294X family continues Cypress’s commitment to invest in the growing market of high-performance clock solutions that provide best-in-class jitter performance and frequency support to our end customers,” said Oliver Pohland, Senior Director of the Timing Solutions Business Unit at Cypress. “The CY294X family caters to the demanding timing precision requirements of the communication and data processing segments and builds upon the success of our industry-leading portfolio of programmable clock generators.”

The CY294X family comes with two evaluation kits (CY3676 and CY3677) and programming software (CyClockWizard 2.1) to help designers create their desired frequencies and to easily check device performance. More information on Cypress’s timing solutions is available at www.cypress.com/timing.

Availability
The CY294X family is currently sampling in 5mm by 7mm LCC, 5mm by 3.2mm LCC and 16-pin QFN packages, with production expected by July 2016.
