Digi-Key Recognizes Strong Sales Growth and Customer Counts in China

Credits In-Country Team and Localized Investments for Past and Future Contributions to Business

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minnesota, USA – March 10, 2016 —

Global electronic components distributor Digi-Key Electronics, the industry leader in electronic component selection, availability and delivery, today announced their recent growth customer counts and sales in China over the last year. The news comes just ahead of electronica China in Shanghai which is held March 15-17, 2016.

Digi-Key experienced strong double-digit growth in China during 2015 as well as significant customer count gains. The company believes this was achieved through investments in infrastructure, expanded product offering, continued development of design tools, and localized customer service and RMB currency options, which have been the driving factors behind growth in the region.

Digi-Key plans to continue to grow their breadth of product – expanding on the world’s largest selection of 1.3M+ unique components that are in stock and available for immediate shipment from 650+ manufacturers.

“Our core strength is the number of components we have in stock and available for immediate shipment, with access to over 4M via our website,” said Dave Doherty, President and COO. “A design engineer does not have to compromise when working with Digi-Key at any phase during the design process. Similarly, those same efficiencies are in play for high-mix/low volume production needs as well.”

Another goal for the company is ensuring the newest technologies are available to engineers and customers. Applications such as the Internet of Things (IoT) are all about sensors, control, connectivity, wearables, and security. The company currently stocks 10,000+ sensors and has added tens-of-thousands of components in the IoT space. Digi-Key intends to remain a constant source for IoT or any latest technology.

An important area Digi-Key plans to stay ahead of the curve is development boards. The company currently carries over 21,000 development boards and modules in stock; which provides a great place for design engineers to start design development and get to market faster.

With offices located in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the company offers in-country sales, customer service, and 24×7 technical support to meet the evolving needs of local design engineers and manufacturers.

“Despite the large size of the Chinese market already, we believe we are only in the early days of a very exciting future,” commented Doherty. “China continues to graduate more engineers than any other country which will continue to drive innovation through new product development. We want to re-enforce the idea that we are there to support that innovation during every step of the process, from concept to production.”

Digi-Key further emphasizes that they are 100% original manufacturer authorized – no “gray” market product; all components come straight from the original manufacturer. Designers and engineers can rest assured that the components used in their designs are high-quality, reliable parts.

Digi-Key would like to invite all electronica China attendees to stop by E2.2118 for the opportunity to meet face-to-face with local support staff and learn more about the many tools and services Digi-Key offers. While there, interested persons have the opportunity to get some tokens to try their luck on a custom game machine for a chance to win a USB Memory Stick.
