SST and SilTerra Announce Production Readiness of Embedded SuperFlash® Macros on SilTerra’s 180 nm CMOS Platform

Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, through its Silicon Storage Technology (SST) subsidiary, announced today that silicon-proven SuperFlash® macros are now available on SilTerra’s 180 nm CMOS technology. The off-the-shelf macros allow SilTerra customers access to SST’s unique SuperFlash non-volatile memory (NVM) technology in a range of competitive-size memory blocks.

SST’s SuperFlash technology is broadly deployed and in high-volume production at multiple integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) and foundry partners like SilTerra.  Therefore, SST’s high-density, reliable and high-yielding memory is widely available to many customers in various markets. By providing pre-qualified macros up to 2Mb, SilTerra is enabling its customers with faster time to market, especially important to customers in the growing Internet of Things (IoT) and smart card markets.

“We are very pleased with the SST-SilTerra partnership which has been growing since our first SuperFlash technology licensing agreement in 2012,” said Mark Reiten, Vice President of Technology Licensing for SST. “SilTerra’s process expertise coupled with the SuperFlash macros of SST has resulted in the availability of a strong 180 nm platform for our mutual customers.”

SilTerra has served many top-tier global fabless design and product companies in multiple market segments. They offer CMOS design and fabrication processes for integrated circuits (ICs) in advanced logic, mixed signal, radio frequency and high-voltage applications.

“Since the production release of SST’s SuperFlash technology on SilTerra’s 180 nm platform, SilTerra’s share of the flash-enabled applications in microcontrollers and smart cards has been growing across a broad customer base—along with our portfolio of silicon-proven macros,” said Yit Loong Lai, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing for SilTerra. “We now look forward to expanding the embedded Flash technology to other process nodes.”
