Ficosa wins a contract to produce for the first time the electromechanical seat-adjustment system

The multinational corporation will provide a major European car manufacturer (OEM) with the electromechanical lumbar adjustment, as well as the back suspension mat and cushion mat for the seats The electromechanical lumbar adjustment improves comfort and reduces fatigue at the wheel Barcelona, July 7, 2016.- Ficosa, a top-tier global provider devoted to the research, development, manufacturing and marketing of high-technology vision, safety, connectivity and efficiency systems for the automotive and mobility sectors, has won a contract with a major European car manufacturer (OEM) to produce a system composed of the backrest suspension mat and the cushion mat with electromechanical lumbar adjustment. The order will be produced at Fico Cables, Ficosa’s facility in Porto (Portugal), and manufacturing will start in early 2018.

This is the first time in its history that Ficosa has developed and supplied an electronic lumbar adjustment system, which is a solution that allows for automatic regulation of the lower-back support in the seat in order to improve comfort and reduce fatigue while driving. Ignasi Castelló, Director of Ficosa’s Door & Seat Systems Business Unit, explains: “We are very proud to have won this order because it not only reinforces our extensive experience in developing seat systems but also allows us to take a step forward and expand our portfolio of solutions with an innovative product.”

Fico Cables, Center of excellence in door and seat systems Founded in 1972, Fico Cables was the first plant that Ficosa opened beyond Spain’s borders, being a pioneer in Spain in starting the internationalization process. Since then, this factory has been growing in business volume and product range to establish itself as the group’s global Center of excellence and operational base for doors and seat systems. The factory, which has a production plant and R&D center, also supplies cables to the main car manufacturers. Likewise, the Porto facility has received several awards in recent years recognizing its know-how and quality products, including the 2015 Toyota Motor Europe award for the excellence of the solutions supplied.
