XP Power’s BQ series of high voltage DC power supplies offer 10kW of regulated power up to 100kV

October 27, 2020 – XP Power today announced the release of the XP Glassman BQ series of 10kW, high voltage power supplies for OEM, industrial and laboratory organisations requiring controllable DC power from 0 to 15kV through to 0 to 100kV. The fast response units feature tight voltage regulation of better than 0.005% for line regulation and 0.01% for load. Up to five units can be connected in parallel in a master-slave configuration to produce up to 50kW.

The 19-inch, 7U rack-mount units combine the latest design topologies and operating features with proven reliability at an attractive price point. The input of the BQ series is offered with 208Vac 3-phase as standard, however, to meet global appeal, 200Vac, 380Vac, 415Vac and 480Vac options are also available. Efficiency is typically greater than 80% at full load, with ripple typically less than 0.05% RMS of the rated output voltage.

All models have safety certification to the EN/IEC61010 standard, with CE marking to the RoHS directive. The units also comply with EN61000-6-4 conducted and radiated emissions and EN61000-6-2:2005 immunity standards. Application areas include ion implantation, additive manufacturing, e-beam welding, sputter, vapour deposition, and plasma sources.

A key feature of the BQ series is that all models are air-insulated. Using air as the primary dielectric medium eliminates oil or encapsulation, which means it is lightweight, under 40kg, and easy to maintain and service, thereby lowering total cost of ownership.

All models can transition between constant voltage and constant current modes via automatic crossover. This feature protects against overloads, arcs, and short circuits. A rear panel switch allows selection of constant current or current trip modes. Also, to manage arcing, the BQ series power supplies have arc quenching and arc counting. The first feature inhibits the high voltage output for a short period after each load arc to help extinguish arcing. Arc Counting prevents a system or load arcing problem from developing beyond factory-set parameters. It does this through internal circuitry that counts arcs that occur over a given time and, if necessary, cycles the power supply off to clear the fault and then automatically restarts after a pre-set ‘off dwell time’.

The BQ series is available direct from XP Power and comes with a 3-year warranty.
