Mentor Graphics Partners with SamacSys to Provide Schematic Symbols, PCB Footprints and 3D Models for PartQuest

Free high-quality CAD models available now in all Mentor PCB formats

Wilsonville, USA and Wallingford, UK, 3 April, 2018 – Mentorâ has partnered with SamacSys to provide free PCB symbols, footprints and 3D models from within PartQuestÔ, Mentor’s online platform for finding component information. The SamacSys CAD library content saves companies the time-consuming task of library part creation.

SamacSys is the global leader in providing accurate component ECAD data, and has been selected to provide high-quality CAD models for Mentor’s PADSâ, xDX Designer and Xpeditionâ PCB design solutions. Components found on PartQuest can now be downloaded into any Mentor PCB format without the need for manually extracting information from datasheets to create the CAD models. SamacSys’ tools are unique in the industry because of their capacity to deliver live, IPC-standard quality-checked parts libraries that never go out of date.

Engineers and PCB designers now have access to a library containing more than 13 million components. Users of PartQuest will now see the globally recognised ‘green icon’ from SamacSys next to the components they wish to design-in. This new content significantly reduces library development time and improves design accuracy during any product development cycle – leading to lower costs.

When a manufacturer brings a new component to the market, SamacSys’ PCB Library Wizard allows users to create their own IPC-compliant components for instant download. SamacSys also offers the only free part-creation service, with more than 90% of new part requests fulfilled within 24 hours (as measured during 2017).

AJ Incorvaia, Vice President and General Manager, Board Systems Division at Mentor, said: “Engineers and electronics innovators around the world need to spend their valuable time on product development, to bring their great ideas to market. Access to Mentor’s full suite of PCB design solutions and market-leading content from SamacSys can significantly reduce project times when developing technologies such as connected devices targeting applications in the IoT or in electric vehicles, for example. We’re delighted to have chosen SamacSys as our ECAD model provider for PartQuest.”

Alex MacDougall, Managing Director at SamacSys, added: “Engineers have wasted time on PCB library activities for decades. In a fast-changing world where companies need a competitive edge, it’s important that technical content is available to improve design efficiency. We hope our library content displayed on PartQuest will help the Mentor community bring their products to market more quickly.”
