Ceragon License CEVA DSPs for Full 5G Wireless Backhaul

– CEVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA), the leading licensor of signal processing platforms and artificial intelligence processors for smarter, connected devices, today announced that Ceragon Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ: CRNT) has licensed the CEVA-X2 and CEVA-XC4500 DSPs to deploy in a new software-defined radio modem which is being designed to address the mature stage of 5G service network rollout.

“The CEVA DSPs are an important component of our strategic roadmap to quadruple the capabilities of our unique multicore technology by delivering octa-core modem processing within a silicon chip and vertically integrating it into our next generation of wireless backhaul solutions,” said Yuval Reina, EVP Global Products and Services at Ceragon Networks. “The need for higher capacities across increasingly more complex mobile and other networks, on the road to 5G, places an even greater emphasis on the critical role that wireless backhaul plays in meeting business and network deployment targets.

“The use of Ceragon’s unique octa-core modems in vertically integrated full 5G wireless backhaul solutions, will provide immense additional benefits to Ceragon’s customers beyond those available in our current state-of-the-art solutions by offering orders of magnitude more capacity with efficient spectrum management, minimal use of real-estate and reducing energy costs, as capacity needs continue to surge and network complexity continues to grow. Ceragon’s multicore technology, a key component of its current IP-20 Platform, resolves the key challenges associated with wireless backhaul, as networks transition from 4G to 5G, offering mobile operators a highly innovative, quick rollout with the scalability to increase capacity as the network expands and densifies over time.”

“Ceragon is the market leading specialist in wireless backhaul worldwide, and we’re pleased to provide the critical 5G DSP technologies for their next-generation multicore platform,” said Michael Boukaya, vice president and general manager of the wireless business unit at CEVA. “Our unique expertise in developing DSPs to handle the most advanced wireless technologies is unrivalled and Ceragon’s decision to partner with us for their next generation platform is further confirmation of this.”

CEVA’s industry-leading DSP cores power many of the world’s leading wireless semiconductors and OEMs, enabling unrivaled power consumption, performance and cost efficiencies in cellular IoT, terminal and infrastructure solutions. The CEVA-X2 DSP is ideal for ultra-low latency PHY control use cases, a key requirement of the 5G standard. The CEVA-XC4500 DSP is designed specifically to overcome the stringent power consumption, time-to-market and cost constraints associated with developing high-performance baseband solutions. It supports multiple air interfaces for various applications such as cellular baseband, wireless infrastructure, wireless backhaul, connectivity, V2X, UAV communications, satellite and smart grid.
