Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team to benefit from REMUS’s 25 years of racing experience

  • The team will work together with REMUS personnel at the track and have a technical partnership to include manufacture of exhaust systems for the Mercedes‑AMG C 63 DTM
  • Stephan Zöchling: “This involvement with Mercedes-AMG in the DTM is another highlight in a motor racing pedigree that stretches back over 25 years at REMUS.”
  • Ulrich Fritz: “We’re delighted to be able to utilise the know-how REMUS have gained in the field of exhausts.”

The Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team has lined up a new partnership for the 2017 season. REMUS, world market leader in the production of sports silencers, have become Official Technology Partner to the team. REMUS logos will be displayed on the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM following their decision to work together.

REMUS will also build silencers for the DTM cars. REMUS CEO Stephan Zöchling: “The manufacture of DTM racing exhaust systems made from Inconel represents the sort of technical challenge as regards cold-forming and weldability that we meet every day in the serial production of high-performance exhaust systems for super sports cars. We’re proud to be Official Technology Partner of the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM Team and look forward to an exciting and successful DTM season in 2017.”

DTM is ideal test bed for REMUS

Remus was set up in 1990 and had become world market leaders in the manufacture of sports exhausts within just five years. Zöchling: “Our involvement with Mercedes-AMG in the DTM is another feather in our caps in a motor racing pedigree that stretches back more than 25 years at REMUS. Along with our own in-house test facilities, the world’s toughest race series offer the ideal environment, in which to ‘experience’ extreme situations in the truest sense of the word.”

The REMUS-SEBRING group has three factories and 700 employees, who develop, design and produce exhaust systems for ‘ high-performance car manufacturers’. REMUS are recognised suppliers to many well-known tuning houses, while SEBRING supply premium car manufacturers such as Mercedes-AMG.

Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM: “Motor racing has been an integral part of company philosophy at REMUS since its very inception. The company is a perfect match for us as Official Technology Partner with their focus on research and development. Every thousandth of a second counts in the DTM, and we’re looking forward to being able to utilise the know-how REMUS have gained in the field of exhaust systems.”

Long motor racing tradition

For REMUS, motor racing has been an essential part of company philosophy from the very beginning. The first sports silencers to leave the newly erected plant in Bärnbach, Austria, in the spring of 1991were born out of knowledge gained from competing in the national rally championship.

And so, the focus was not just on the transfer of image from race track to road, but also on the crossover of technology, giving the customer the guarantee that he/she was getting the best possible sports silencer for their vehicle. Races in national and international rally events were followed by competition in various touring car and single-seater racing series, as well as involvement with Formula One World Champions Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve.

Focus on research and development

The R&D department was made a top priority from the very beginning. A modern sound lab, featuring state-of-the-art measuring technology, test beds and development facilities, in which virtually every running condition for two and four-wheeled vehicles can be simulated is at the very heart of the department.

Recently, in the autumn of 2016, a new heated ISO-certified drive-by track was installed to measure noise, enabling R&D to be carried out to the latest ISO standards from start to finish – the existing test track for taking measurements is still in operation as back-up.
