Nokia signs EUR 30 million network expansion and modernization deal with Bangladesh’s Teletalk

Dhaka, Bangladesh – Nokia will help Teletalk improve coverage in rural areas not currently covered by 2G and 3G networks and enhance the quality of services in urban areas. Teletalk will deploy the Nokia Single Radio Access Network (RAN) platform, extending its service offerings in parts of the capital city, Dhaka, and five divisions including Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Khulna and Barisal, covering 70% of Bangladesh.

Under the agreement, Nokia’s innovative Single RAN technology will allow 2G, 3G and 4G technologies to run from a single platform. The technology will also help the operator significantly reduce energy costs and bring down CO2 emissions. Nokia will also support modernization of Teletalk’s core and optics network and will provide professional services for network planning and implementation for the deployment over the next two years.

Gias Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director at Teletalk, said: “With this initiative we are confident that we will raise the bar for superior and consistent quality of service for our subscribers. We are happy to further extend our excellent collaboration with Nokia towards building a state-of-the-art network and bringing a quality network to our customers.”

Nicolas Bouverot, head of Asia South at Nokia, said: “We are thrilled to take our longstanding relationship with Teletalk to the next level by helping them to provide superior services to their subscribers. The network expansion and modernization initiative will help Teletalk attract new subscribers in the rural region and reduce churn in the urban areas. Our global experience will enable Teletalk to offer enhanced customer experience to its subscribers.”
