ams wins Austrian Innovation Award sponsored by the Austrian Ministry of Science, Research and Economics

ams’ TMG399x intelligent gesture sensor family selected over 524 submissions, validating the company’s leadership in innovative sensor technologies

Premstaetten, Austria (30 March, 2016), ams AG (SIX: AMS), a leading provider of high performance sensors and analog ICs, announces that the TMG399x intelligent gesture sensor family is the winner of the Austrian Innovation Award sponsored by the Austrian Ministry of Science, Research and economics. The award ceremony was held on March 29, 2016 in Vienna.

“With more than 2,000 analog sensor patents worldwide our company has a solid foundation for innovation that enables us to be highly competitive. Winning this prestigious innovation award is yet another recognition of our creativity and ingenuity being market leader in light sensors”, said Alexander Everke, CEO of ams.

ams’ intelligent gesture sensor family takes human/machine communications to the next level by accommodating a wide range of device gesturing requirements from simple two-or- four-direction gestures- such as north-south-east-west gestures —  to more complex gesture events like directional tap and diagonal gestures. The solution comes in a standard footprint and is highly integrated with a 5-in-1 gesture module that includes gesture detection, color, ambient light, proximity sensing, integrated LED and e-commerce/Mobeam Barcode emulation functionality. All this in an ultra-small 7.9mm2 sensor module that is ideally suited for operation behind dark glass.

As consumer electronics – from smartphones and wearables to home automation and control – offer greater functionality, the ability to interact with these systems will be greatly enhanced as these space-constrained devices are able to recognize and respond to the user without the need to handle the device. ams recognizes the imminent market need for manufacturers to have advanced UI alternatives that make the interaction with devices richer and more intuitive.
