Epson to Begin Volume Production of RF Transmitter Module with Integrated Crystal Resonator and RF Transmitter Circuit

Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, “Epson”) has developed a compact, accurate, radio-frequency (RF) transmitter module with an integrated crystal resonator and RF transmitter circuit. Called the SR3225SAA, the new module will enter volume production in April 2016.

Epson leverages its efficient, compact, and precision technologies to create original modules that are known for their small size and superb accuracy. Epson’s modules are a popular choice for use in a wide variety of electronic devices. Demand for sensor networks, data telemetry, remote keyless entry systems, and other short-range wireless transmission systems has grown in recent years, and developers of such systems require smaller RF modules with greater accuracy.

Epson responded by developing the SR3225SAA. These short-range RF transmitter modules combine a tiny crystal resonator produced using Epson’s original QMEMS* technology with a radio transmitter circuit fabricated using Epson’s semiconductor technology. They have a footprint measuring just 3.2 mm × 2.5 mm. The frequency tolerance of the crystal oscillator is an excellent ±2 ppm. The carrier wave can be set or changed to any desired frequency between 300 MHz and 465 MHz or between 600 MHz and 930 MHz. In addition, the crystal resonator and RF transmitter circuit are optimally designed and adjusted for the best match, so customers do not need to design and adjust circuits on their end. The SR3225SAA can thus help customers reduce the time and money spent designing their own RF circuits that include oscillator circuits.

* QMEMS:
QMEMS is a combination of “Quartz,” a crystalline material with excellent characteristics such as excellent frequency stability and high precision, and “MEMS” (micro electro mechanical system).
QMEMS devices, produced via a microfabrication process on a crystalline material instead of on a semiconductor material like MEMS, offer high performance in a compact package. QMEMS is a registered trademark of Seiko Epson Corporation.
