New Komfy Switch with camera by D-Link features ams gas sensor for accurate air quality measurements

Unterpremstaetten, Austria (9 December, 2015), ams AG (SIX: AMS), a leading provider of high performance sensors and analog ICs, today announced that the new KomfySwitch with camera by D-Link features the ams iAQ-core indoor air quality module.

The iAQ-core is a miniaturized, low-power gas sensor module that measures the indoor air quality with unrivaled accuracy. It uses a MEMS based VOC sensor component and provides an output of ppb TVOC and ppm CO2 equivalent units via an I2C interface in response to changes in ambient levels of pollutants commonly found in indoor environments.

The Komfy Switch with camera by D-Link is more than a smart light switch. Featuring a Full HD 1080p camera with 16-feet night vision and environmental sensors, users are provided with peace of mind by knowing exactly what’s going on at home. Built-in sensors deliver useful information, including motion, sound, temperature, power consumption, air quality, and humidity detection. The Komfy mobile app and free cloud service provide the ability to view, control and manage the solution from virtually anywhere via a smartphone or tablet.

The iAQ-core directly measures ambient concentrations of a broad range of reducing gases associated with bad air quality such as alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, organic acids, amines as well as aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, which can be harmful to human and animal health at high levels. These VOC measurements provide a more useful measure of indoor air quality than the carbon dioxide sensors commonly used for air quality monitoring today, since CO2 concentrations are strongly affected by the presence of human beings and animals, which exhale the gas.

The iAQ-core VOC measurements are displayed in the free Komfy app, which is availale on any compatible iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch device. The app is easy-to-use and delivers insights that help users make their home safer and brighter by providing a simple way to
interact with lights and Komfy sensors.

“The Komfy Switch with camera by D-Link provides consumers with a wide array of notifications and features to ensure things at home are confortable and safe”, said AJ Wang, CTO, D-Link Systems, Inc. “The technology and support provided by ams enabled us to deliver
a simple and credible measure of air quality with the iAQ-core detecting volatitle organic compounds in the home to ensure normal, healthy ranges.”
